Word from the campaign of State Senator and KY-2 Democratic Candidate David Boswell (D-Sorgho) is that the Senator will stand by his recent comments declaring that "(a)nyone that signs a ‘no tax’ pledge should be fired from elected office.”
"Senator Boswell made his position known and he is going to stick with that as the campaign goes forward," said campaign spokesperson Jim Cole.
The NRCC fired off a press release criticizing Boswell's claims yesterday. That was followed by a second dispatch to Politickerky.com in which an NRCC spokesman questioned whether Boswell's statements should be applied to fellow Kentucky Democrat, Congressman Ben Chandler. Chandler is listed as a signeed to an Americans for Tax Reform pledge to oppose "all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses."
Boswell is seeking the KY-2 left open by the retirement of Republican incumbent Ron Lewis. That seat - along with KY-3 - was included on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's 2008 target list.
Cole also told politickerky.com the Boswell campaign continues to schedule fundraisers, with events in Owensboro and Bowling Green scheduled in the coming weeks.
"This will be a well-funded campaign," promised Cole.
State Senator Brett Guthrie of Bowling Green is the only Republican in the KY-2 race, while Boswell is challenging Daviess County Judge/Executive Reid Haire for the Democratic primary.
