KY-3: Northup already gunning for Yarmuth

Congressional candidate Anne NorthupCongressional candidate Anne NorthupFollowing her big win this evening in the 3rd Congressional District Republican primary, Anne Northup (R-Louisville) is already targeting her November opponent, Congressman John Yarmuth (D-Louisville).

According to a copy of her speech distributed this evening, Northup appears to be on the offensive against Yarmuth already.

"My opponent will try to make this race about the past. He'll use George Bush's name as many times as possible because it worked for him during the last campaign. Well you know what? That President's name isn't on the ballot this year," said Northup in the speech. "This Congressional election is about how Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats have done for the last two years, and how John Yarmuth has done for the last two years. The question we have to answer is, are we better off as a community than we were two years ago."

KY-3: Thieneman says he ran 'honest race'

LOUISVILLE -- Louisville developer Chris Thieneman lost his bid to win the Republican nomination in Kentucky's 3rd Congressional district this evening to former Congresswoman Anne Northup, but he remained upbeat in an interview with PolitickerKY.com on election night.Chris Thieneman (R-Louisville)Chris Thieneman (R-Louisville)

"I knew it was going to be an uphill battle," said Thieneman.

With 99 percent of precints reporting, Northup took 76.9 percent of the vote to Thieneman's 21.4 percent.

Thieneman pointed to the results as a point of pride, as they showed an improvement over month-old poll numbers that showed him either farther behind then he finished.

"When I got into this a month ago, I only had 11 percent," said Thieneman. "Right now I have 20."

KY-3: 'What will be, will be' for Thieneman

Word from the campaign of Chris Thieneman is that the candidate is waiting out election results for his bid for the Republican nomination in Kentucky's 3rd Congressional District.

"[Thieneman] made a few phone calls this morning," said David Toborowsky, Thieneman's campaign consultant. "We've done all we can do and we'll let the voters decide."

Toborowsky praised the tone of the campaign, which was largely positive once Thieneman revived his candidacy in late April.

"We have given voters the opportunity to make a choice," said Toborowsky. "At least there are three good candidates."

KY-3: Northup camp 'happy' with election day thus far

Anne Northup's (R-Louisville) campaign sounds satisfied with the way primary day is going thus far.

"It sounds like the Republican turnout is satisfactory, but of course when you don't have a race at the top of the ticket it will always diminish the likelihood that the voters will go to the polls," said Northup's campaign manager, Scott Will in a statement emailed to PolitickerKY.com. "All in all, we're happy with how the day in progressing."

Northup had earlier expressed some concern that low turnout could lead to a "small group" - such as supporters of Congressman Ron Paul's lingering presidential bid - holding sway over the election.

What a difference a day makes: Everett to endorse Thieneman

Louisville property manager Corley Everett will, in fact, drop out of the 3rd district race and endorse Republican primary opponent Chris Thieneman just one day after telling PolitickerKY.com he would not.
