McConnell camp again rebutts public poll with internal numbers

For the second time in the young campaign season, the campaign of four-term U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Louisville) has released internal polling data showing a large lead on the heels of public polling painting a dimmer picture for the incumbent.

The new internal numbers put McConnell in the same position as figures released from the campaign on May 27, with the Senate Majority Leader holding a 50 to 39 percent lead over Democratic nominee Bruce Lunsford, of Louisville.

The McConnell campaign also said their numbers show a 54 percent favorability rating for their candidate.

Northup camp releases internal poll painting a brighter picture for her bid

Congressional candidate Anne NorthupCongressional candidate Anne NorthupOn the heels of a new SurveyUSA poll showing their candidate down seventeen points to incumbent U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) in the race for the 3rd Congressional District, the campaign of Anne Northup (R-Louisville) criticized those numbers and released results of an internal poll showing her trailing by only 7.3 percent.

"The WHAS/Survey USA poll released today is seriously flawed," said Northup campaign chair Ted Jackson. "Given the national climate, we are encouraged by our own poll results."

A memo from Northup's campaign pollster, Jan van Lohuizen of Voter/Consumer Research, shows Northup down 51 to 43 percent, according to the internal poll.

Guthrie brings in McConnell’s pollster, $600k with 'laser focus'

State Senator Brett Guthrie's (R-Bowling Green) bid for Kentucky's open 2nd Congressional District will be bolstered by the help of an ally with proven success in the Commonwealth and the district.

The campaign announced last week that Jan van Lohuizen, founder of the Texas-based Voter Consumer Research firm, will serve as pollster for their efforts. van Lohuizen is also the long-time pollster incumbent U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Louisville), and had previously worked with the retiring 2nd District incumbent, U.S. Rep Ron Lews (R-Cecilia), since he was first elected in 1994. Most significantly, van Lohuizen also was regarded as the "personal pollster" for President George W. Bush.

Guthrie's team will also be joined by Brad Todd, a media strategist who co-founded the firm OnMessage. According to the campaign, Todd will handle television and radio advertising for the race.
