Prestonburg event central to House Democratic fundraising efforts

House Democrats expect to tap into a reliable base of financial support in eastern Kentucky tonight, when the House Democratic Caucus holds its first fundraiser of the 2008 election cycle in Prestonburg.

The Caucus’ Prestonburg event has served the organization well in recent years, according to Caucus director Jonathan Hurst.

“This is traditionally our best fundraiser,” said Hurst. “We always turn to eastern Kentucky to help us.”

Unlike many fundraisers, there is no required admission charge for tonight’s event at the Stonecrest Golf Club in Prestonburg. However, pre-arranged sponsors and a group of hosts with significant clout in the Commonwealth give the caucus high hopes for the evening.

“We haven’t set any goals, but it’ll be an extremely successful fundraiser for us,” said caucus director Jonathan Hurst.

Clinton touts support of Kentucky leaders ahead of primary

The campaign announced its steering committee today, consisting of more than a hundred leaders that have endorsed the senator from New York.

The committee's co-state chairs include such notables as former Governors Wendell Ford, John Brown, Paul Patton, and Julian Carroll as well as former Attorney General and State Rep. Greg Stumbo.

"We are honored to have the support of so many respected community leaders throughout Kentucky, all dedicated to making Hillary successful in Tuesday's primary," State Director Jonathan Hurst said in a statement.

Former state Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Lundergan will serve as the committee's state chairman.

Cantrell confirmed as Clinton's KY political director

The Kentucky campaign of Senator Hillary Clinton confirmed today that Kentucky native Elizabeth Cantrell is serving as the state political director, as was reported by PolitickerKY.com on April 17.

The Clinton campaign noted Cantrell is a graduate of the University of Louisville and has "worked on numerous campaigns throughout the state."

"We have an incredibly talented and hardworking staff here in Kentucky," said State campaign Director Jonathan Hurst in a release dispatched today. "Elizabeth's experience, commitment, and knowledge of the state made her the natural choice for Political Director."

Clinton campaign update

The Kentucky campaign of Senator Hillary Clinton confirmed the roles of staffers Jamie Radice and Jonathan Hurst today in a press release.

As was reported last week on PolitickerKY.com, Radice will serve as Kentucky Communications Director for Clinton. She previously worked for the campaign in Texas and Tennessee.

Hillary Clinton HQ up and running in Louisville

Senator Hillary Clinton’s Presidential campaign opened the doors on a Kentucky headquarters Wednesday evening, thirty four days before the Commonwealth’s May 20 primary. Around 100 supporters turned out to the see the Louisville office officially get designation as the nerve center for Clinton's Kentucky operations.
