Research 2000 gives McConnell 13 point edge

U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnellU.S. Sen. Mitch McConnellA poll commissioned by the left-leaning Daily Kos blog finds U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Louisville) with a sizeable double-digit lead over Louisville businessman Bruce Lunsford (D-Louisville). The poll – conducted by Research 2000 – shows McConnell garnering 50 percent support from among 600 “likely” voters, compared to 37 percent support for Lunsford.

Thirteen percent of respondents were “undecided.”

The advantage for McConnell represents a one point boost from a similar Research 2000 poll conducted at the end of July. Comparing the two polls on demographic and geographical breakdowns finds little variation, though they were conducted nearly a month and a half apart.

McConnell leads across all age groups, though Lunsford is within three points of the incumbent among voters aged 18 to 29. There McConnell holds a 46 to 43 percent lead.
