Landham's bid in jeopardy after continued anti-Arab comments

The Libertarian Party of Kentucky's leadership will meet tonight to decide the fate of their Senate candidate, Sonny Landham. In the last week, Landham has made continual anti-Arab comments that culminated in an exchange on The Weekly Filibuster radio program Friday night. "So are you calling for a complete genocide of the Arab race? Is that what you're saying? Unless they raise the white flag?" asked one of the program's hosts, Sage Koontz.

"When you are in a war, you kill every thing that moves," responded Landham, a former actor who played Billy in action movie "Predator."

Friday's remarks came during Landham's second appearance on the internet radio program, and his comments were more intense than those from the first. In a Wednesday appearance on the Weekly Filibuster, Landham called for a stop to Arab immigration to the United States.

Libertarian Party leadership -- which had been leading the drive to collect signatures to secure Landham's access to Kentucky ballots -- is now considering whether they want Landham as their candidate at all.

"We are going to have a meeting tonight to make a decision as a committee as to what we are going to do," said Libertarian Party Chairman Ken Moellman.

Moellman said Libertarian Party leaders were "very dissappointed" in Landham's comments, which he said did not mesh with the either "pro-immigration or pro-legal immigration" stance of many of his party's members.

Landham was recruited as the Libertarian Party's Senate candidate on short notice in June, when the national party wanted a down ballot candidate alongside their presidential candidate, former U.S. Rep. Bob Barr (R-Ga.).

The Ashland resident's candidacy has been controversial from the start. While Landham is most well-known for his appearance in "Predator," his work in several pornographic movies has gained national attention.

Even more political baggage was unearthed in the form of several videos Landham appeared in for the Council of Conservative Citizens -- an organization considered a "hate-group" by many.

Landham repudiated his membership in that organization shortly after his association with it was reported, though his latest comments seem to leave many scratching their heads where the candidate -- himself part-Native American -- stands on issues of race and ethnicity.

Since launching his candidacy, Landham also stirred controversy by denying that global warming existed.

Moellman said Landham had been out of line with the party on several issues, but they gave him some leeway -- until the latest comments concerning Arabs.

"With the most recent comments, action was required," Moellman said.

In recent weeks, Moellman has said Libertarian canvassers have collected enough petition signatures to secure ballot access for both Landham and Barr in Kentucky. Now, however, the party officially controls that access for those candidates.

Moellman says a decision from the party should be reached as early as tonight as to whether Landham will remain the Libertarian candidate.

I guess Landham won't follow

I guess Landham won't follow in the footsteps of his co-actors from "Predator," Governors Schwarzenegger and Ventura, thank god. I assumed most of the racist comments this year would be coming from Republicans, but alas, ignorance and hate know no party affiliations. The Libertarians may kick Sonny out, but he has a future in the Klan with Porretto and Houillion. You people are human garbage and are no better than Nazis.

al-qaida is thought to have

al-qaida is thought to have at most 5000-10,000 or so members, and even that is probably wildly high. true hardcore terrorists are pretty rare, most people, including arabs (shocking huh?) have to work for a living.

i was raised libertarian, and my father taught me to reject government coercion unless it was absolutely necessarry, not just where taxes are concernened. obviously, killing people deprives them of their liberty in a, um, big way. I was taught how cheap human life was in communist countries, and how the state invented every conceivable justification by reference to the "enemy".

War is really the most coercive tool at the states command.

What kind of libertarian supports STATE sponsored genocide?

This is a mockery and insult to people who cherish liberty. I hope the party does the right thing.

jackasses like landham must have no idea what its like for ordinary people to have to live and work under the thumb of a dictator in a police state. thats the lot most arabs have drawn just by being born.

one note: even in Iran, vigils were held by ordinary people for americans after 9/11, despite the iranian gov's constant attempt to demonize us at every turn. don't forget about these people.

Thank You

Capt Flint,

Thank you for spelling my name right. Most people mess it up even when they are copying it. Wouldn't want there to be any confusion about who you are talking about when people read your post.

The line between civilized

The line between civilized and uncivilized is narrower than we would like to think. Remember George Carlin's bit about what would happen if the electrical grid went down -- millions of convicts and lowlifes roaming the earth?

What could be scarier than Landham, Porretto, and Houillion showing up at your door, asking for a beer and eyeing your wife...

OMFG

Wow, a couple of Down Syndromers in here supporting an ape and former movie star.
"A Libertarian nominee who gets it!"
Get's what? WTF are you talking about? The man grunted a line from the Predator movie and he doesn't believe in science. You left LP and joined the Neanderthal Party, I guess?

Mr. Porretto, While you may

Mr. Porretto,

While you may not be able to vote for Sonny, the campaign could certainly use donations from like-minded individuals, such as yourself. Any one who wishes to donate to this campaign, please visit our web site at www.sonny2008.com and click on donate.

A Libertarian nominee who gets it!

The Kentucky LP "leadership's" reaction to Landham's comments is a perfect demonstration for why I, a former New York State LP Chairman, will no longer have anything to do with the LP. Indeed, they make me wish Landham were running for office from New York, so I could vote for him.
