MINNEAPOLIS – Though his cancelled Monday night speech has not yet been rescheduled, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Louisville) will be visibly well-positioned at tonight’s Republican National Convention.
A spokesman for McConnell confirmed that the Kentuckian will be presiding over the opening of convention night events today. McConnell was earlier selected as temporary chair of the convention.
In addition, during the state-by-state roll call tonight, when votes will be tallied towards the official selection of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) as the Republican’s presidential nominee, McConnell will announce Kentucky’s totals.
The four-term incumbent is also scheduled to join Kentucky’s delegation for a reception at the Hard Rock Café in Minneapolis this afternoon.
Yesterday, McConnell joined the Kentucky group for a private lunch.
No other appearances by the Senator were confirmed.
