Lunsford camp on Chao comments: 'Ludicrous'

Comments made by U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao today while she campaigned for her husband, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Louisville) drew an objection from the camp of McConnell's opponent, Louisville businessman Bruce Lunsford (D-Louisville).

At a women's luncheon in Bowling Green, Chao spoke extensively of federal funds McConnell had brought back to Kentucky as a principle reason for his re-election while asserting that Lunsford "said that he will not use his position to help fund Kentucky projects."

Lunsford spokesperson Cary Stemle rejected that sentiment in a statement sent to PolitickerKY.com.

"It's ludicrous to say Bruce wouldn't help Kentucky," said Stemle.

"Just remember what Mitch McConnell said in 1984: ‘Being in the majority is what matters,'" he added.

The Lunsford campaign pointed to a statement from McConnell delivered during his 1984 campaign, when the incumbent won his first term by unseating Democratic incumbent Dee Huddleston and joined the Republican Party's Senate majority.

"It's the Republican Party that has the clout in the U.S. Senate today, and I'm here to tell you that a freshman Republican senator from Kentucky will have more clout, more influence and more ability to get things done in Washington than Walter Huddleston has today," said McConnell in 1984, according to a quote from the Louisville Courier-Journal.

If Lunsford were to beat McConnell, it is expected that he would join a U.S. Senate controlled by a Democratic majority.

Tell it like it is, Elaine. Don't forget to tell them about your senior staff at the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration who have sat at the conference table and used the term "the little people" and "taken out of the gene pool" to refer to coal miners who died in a mining disaster.

Elitists like Mitch and Elaine Chao don't belong in government.

By the way, why isn't she addressed as Mrs McConnell? Don't they have any respect for the eternal institution of marriage? They are phonies! 90% of Republicans are phonies!
McConnell says that the bailout is not a liability and that the markets would be worse if nothing was done.
This is classic con-artist talk designed to cover his colossal failures in the Senate. My 12 year old can cover himself better than this. McConnell sits in the Senate deregulating wherever he can, the crooks swarm over the markets and rob the taxpayers blind and he says "You're just lucky it wasn't worse!" And we are supposed to be grateful. Throw the bums out! All of them. And don't forget to get rid of Bunning too!
