A video highlighting Democratic Senate Candidate Greg Fischer's history of donating to Republican candidates was circulated today following the Fischer camp's swipe at opponent Bruce Lunsford's past support of the GOP.
The video - set to a flashy hip-hop beat - references three contributions to Republicans by Fischer and contrasts the information to a looped recording of the candidate proclaiming he is a "proud Democrat."
FEC and Kentucky Registry of Election Finance Records show Fischer twice gave to current Republican 3rd District Congressional Candidate Anne Northup in earlier campaigns, in the amounts of $250 and $350. He also provided $250 to former Jefferson County Judge/Executive Rebecca Jackson.
"This is not information we were hiding. We have been honest about the contributions Greg has made and we feel they have been minimal in comparison to the contributions our opponent has made," said Fischer spokesperson Nicole Candler.
Candler also noted the circulated video was over two-months old, and said it was the work of supporters of former candidate Andrew Horne. Horne dropped out of the Senate race in mid-February.
All told, Fischer contributed $26,850 to political candidates and campaign organizations.
Earlier today, the Fischer campaign dispatched a press release referencing fellow Democratic candidate Bruce Lunsford's history of giving $58,350 in financial support to GOP candidates. Lunsford's total amount donated to all candidates and campaigns is $160,550.
