C-J: Bunning running for third term 'emphatically'
By Trey Pollard, PolitickerKY.com ReporterU.S. Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Southgate) told the Courier-Journal today that he is definitely seeking a third term in 2010.
Earlier remarks about Bunning's intentions to run again were reported shortly after the Nov. 4 election, but some doubts evidently still lingered, as some talk lingered on both sides as to whether Bunning is actually running.
Jim Carroll of the Courier-Journal reports Bunning said "right now, there is absolutely no doubt" about his candidacy.
Bunning also reportedly joked about 2004 rumors that he was ill.
"Barring an unusual occurrence...like death," said Bunning.
The Republican Senator would be 79 by the time of the 2010 general election. He asserted he was ready for another campaign even before the general election this year, and has remarked that $10 million would be needed for Republicans to hold his seat.
Two years away from Election Day, at least one national political analyst has delcared the fight for Bunning's seat to be a "toss-up."
