Lunsford gets support of former UK coach Hall

Bruce Lunsford's campaign to secure the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate got a boost today with the endorsement of former University of Kentucky basketball coach Joe B. Hall.

"As the former coach of the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team, I know what it takes to be a winner," said Hall in a release from the Lunsford camp. "Hard work, determination, the drive to fight for what you want and a willingness to be a team player are traits universal to the best athletes, the best business people, and yes, the best public servants. It is the presence of all of those qualities in Bruce Lunsford, which has led me to endorse his candidacy to be our next U.S. Senator. Bruce is the right man for the job, a man who knows Kentucky, its people and its issues."

Hall also noted "the Lunsford team is suited up and ready to win."

Hall is a longtime supporter of Democrats, having campaigned on behalf of current Governor Steve Beshear and current 6th District Congressman Ben Chandler. Earlier in this year's Senate race, there was some speculation Hall himself may start up a campaign. Hall, however, quickly rejected the speculation.

Hall coached the University of Kentucky Men's Basketball team from 1972 to 1985, leading the Wildcats to three Final Fours and the 1978 NCAA Championship. He also was a notable player, having toured with the Harlem Globetrotters in 1951.
