Louisville NAACP President calls Davis' 'boy' comment 'insulting'

The President of the Louisville-Jefferson County NAACP today said Congressman Geoff Davis' reference to Barack Obama as "boy" was "totally inappropriate and insulting."

Raoul Cunningham said, "I would think his constituents should react accordingly."

Cunningham noted Davis is from the 4th Congressional District, as opposed to the 3rd, which contains nearly all of Louisville and Jefferson County, and said he would leave it to voters there handle the issue.

While discussing Obama during a speech at Saturday’s 4th Congressional District Lincoln Reagan Day Dinner, Davis said “I’m going to tell you something – that boy’s finger does not need to be on the button.”

Davis delivered a letter of apology for the remarks yesterday to Obama’s Senate office in Washington, D.C. Cunningham also noted Davis received a 36 percent rating on the NAACP's Congressional Scorecard, which equates to a grade of "F."

"He has not been a friend of the positions of the NAACP in the past," said Cunningham. Cunningham is a longtime member of the Louisville NAACP. He began working with the organization in 1957, at age 14.
