Updated: McCain jabs at Obama, Clinton during Inez town hall meeting

INEZ -- Presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Senator John McCain focused several of his comments at the two Democratic candidates during today's town hall meeting in the eastern Kentucky town of Inez.

McCain said he had never asked for an earmark or pork project during his tenure in the United States Senate. He attempted to contrast this history to those of both Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

"Senator Obama and Senator Clinton have asked for hundreds of millions of dollars for wasteful, wasteful projects," said McCain.

The crowd in Inez particularly applauded a statement from McCain in which he attacked the health care plan of Senator Clinton.

"Senator Clinton wants the government to make decisions on health care," said McCain. "I want families to make decisions on health care."

Update - 12:11pm - Senator McCain fielded one question from from state Senator Brandon Smith (R-Hazard_, of Kentucky's 30th District.

Smith asked McCain for his response to the so-called "bitter" comments made recently by Barack Obama.

McCain's principle response was to ask how the questioner felt about the remarks.

"I think it reflects the views of someone who doesn’t understand this neck of the woods," commented Smith.

The crowd at the Old Martin County Courthouse responded to Smith with a standing ovation.

McCain followed the applause with a brief reply by praising veterans from rural areas. He then categorized Obama's remarks with one word.

"This same group of Americans went out and fought the second world war and made the world safe for democracy," said McCain. "I think those are elitist remarks to say the least."
