The campaign of Democratic Senate candidate Bruce Lunsford responded today to the attack ad released by their primary opponent, Louisville businessman Greg Fischer.
"We are dissappointed not all Democrats are working towards the primary goal of defeating Mitch McConnell," said Allison Haley, spokesperson for Lunsford's campaign.
Fischer's latest ad is his campaign's most direct and public attack on the frontrunner, Lunsford.
Lunsford and the five other candidates in the primary field signed a "oath of honorable campaigning" in which they pledged not to attack each other.
Fischer refused to sign the pledge, instead offering a "truth in campaigning pledge" as an alternative.
The newest Fischer ad revists charges against one of Lunsford's businesses, Vencor. Vencor agreeed to a $104.5 million settlement with the U.S. Government in 2001 on a series of claims about nursing home care and billing issues.
These were the same charges highlighted by Lunsford's 2003 opponent in the Kentucky Gubernatorial primary, Ben Chandler. Lunsford ultimately dropped out of that contentious primary.
