Derby Round-up

While "Derby Week" has been unexpectedly busy in terms of political news, Louisville is now in full-fledged "Derby" mode, sparing none, not even the politically-minded.

Here is your round-up of Kentucky-derby related news.

The Guests:

We here at PolitickerKY.com will leave rumors about movie stars and athletes to other sites, and focus exclusively on political-types.

  • 3rd District Republican candidate Anne Northup will be attending tommorrow's race with members of the Kentucky Navy League.
  • Barack Obama supporters are expected to be out in force, with reports indicating Governor Bill Richardson (D-New Mexico), Governor Kathleen Sebelius (D-Kansas), Congressmen John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) and Ben Chandler (D-Versailles), and Caroline Kennedy will be in attendance.
  • Chelsea Clinton will be joined by other supporters of her mother's candidacy at the race including former DNC Chair Terry McAuliffe and Clinton's current Kentucky campaign chair Jerry Lundergan.
  • Bruce Lunsfords's campaign also confirms the Senate candidate will be in attendance.
  • And the Ville Voice tracked down the Derby plans of a handful of Louisville's Metro Council Members.

The Picks:

  • Hillary Clinton announced her favorite was the 20-horse field's sole filly - Eight Belles.
  • Congressman John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) is appropriately rooting for Colonel John.
  • Barack Obama's campaign announced his money was also on Colonel John, but he also picked Pyro to place and the odds-on favorite, Big Brown, to show.
