LOUISVILLE -- While U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton is delayed in her appearance at the state Democratic Party's fundraiser at the Kentucky International Convention Center, a number of candidates and campaign staffers embroiled in races across the commonwealth are present at the event.
Democratic U.S. Senate candidates Bruce Lunsford, Greg Fischer and James Rice were all mingling in the audience prior to the commencement of the fundraiser activities. Lunsford and Fischer are presently engaged in a contentious back-and-forth battle that has involved allegations of business impropriety and hypocrisy.
At one point, Fischer and Lunsford stood nearly shoulder-to-shoulder in the Kentucky International Convention Center, speaking to separate groups of attendees. The two appeared to not acknowledge each other, and Fischer later confirmed that the opponents did not exchange words.
Fischer has been the target of criticism in recent weeks, with some Democrats –- including U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, Attorney General Jack Conway and Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo -- penning a letter asking him to stop his attacks on Lunsford.
Today, Fischer said the reception he had received from Democrats at the event was overwhelmingly positive.
“Things are going great. I am getting a lot of support here,” said Fischer. “People are thanking me for being truthful…The response has been way more disproportionate for people who are thanking me.”
