Boswell touts endorsements from three former governors, claims polling lead

State Sen. David BoswellState Sen. David BoswellState Sen. David Boswell (D-Sorgho) is seeking the Democratic nomination in Kentucky's open 2nd congressional district with the support of three former Governors of the Commonwealth.

The Boswell camp also says recent internal polling shows their candidate with a "substantive" double-digit lead over primary opponent and Daviess County Judge/Executive Reid Haire.

Specifics on this poll were not available at press time, but they have been requested from the campaign by PolitickerKY.com.

Boswell touted the support of former Governors Paul Patton (D-Pikeville), Julian Carroll (D-Frankfort), and Brereton Jones (D-Midway) in a press release dispatched yesterday.

Carroll also serves in the state Senate with Boswell.

"Campaign contributions, personal endorsements and organizational support have been tremendous," said Boswell in the release. "We have an active grassroots effort on the ground in all 21 counties of the district".

Boswell's campaign also addressed a light first fundraising quarter, in which the candidate pulled in only $34,000.

The campaign's release said Boswell "suspended active campaign fundraising while the Kentucky General Assembly was in session."

"This decision was met with enthusiasm by the voters throughout the second congressional district," said Boswell in the release. "People are tired of the Dick Cheney-Karl Rove brand of politics that sells votes to the highest bidder."

Since then, the campaign says Boswell has raised $100,000 in three weeks. Boswell's April report showed the candidate raising $61,000 in that month.
