The contentious Democratic Senate primary contest between Louisville businessmen Bruce Lunsford and Greg Fischer has taken a turn for the sublime with the release of Fischer's latest ad.

The candidate's newest 30-second spot features a mudwrestling theme. And in that sport's fine tradition of assigning nicknames to participants, Fischer's ad labels his opponent as Bruce 'Mudman' Lunsford.

The ad revives the same charges that Fischer has been hammering against Lunsford of late, albeit with a grander attempt at humor. These include Lunsford's Monday denial that he had given "tens of thousands" of dollars to Republicans. Fischer's ad says Lunsford has given "over $60,000 to Republicans."

During Wednesday's debate in Louisville, Lunsford apologized for this denial and categorized it as a mistake.

The new ad also categorizes Fischer as "a political newcomer."
