Congressional candidate Anne NorthupThe campaign of 3rd District Republican candidate Anne Northup received a huge boost today going into tomorrow's primary election, announcing they raised $40,000 in the last twenty-four hours.
"We're encouraged by the groundswell of support that's apparent in our fundraising today, and will be apparent in the election results tomorrow night," said Northup in a statement released today.
Northup has been spending funds she would have otherwise used in the general election by running television ads during her primary campaign, after Louisville developer Chris Thieneman revived his own bid for the Republican nomination in late April.
Northup said recently her campaign was not necessarily expecting serious primary competition - with Thieneman being out of the race for so long - so those expenditures against him were not guaranteed. After Thieneman re-entered the race, Northup indicated she was taking the competition "seriously."
In the only public polling conducted in the race, Northup was up by 68 points on Thieneman, though this was prior to the revival of Thieneman's campaign and the subsequent advertisement.
The winner of Tuesday's primary will face freshman incumbent Congressman John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) in November.
