U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-California) is scheduled to visit the Louisville area this weekend for a series of events with U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Louisville), including an evening fundraiser.
According to Yarmuth's weekly schedule, the freshman Rep. will be joined by Speaker Pelosi for events starting at 2pm on Saturday.
While specifics of their joint appearances were not finalized at this time, a Yarmuth spokesperson confirmed that Pelosi would headline a "high-dollar" fundraiser for Yarmuth's campaign Saturday evening. That even will be held at the downtown 21 C Museum Hotel.
Pelosi has served as the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives since January of 2007, when Democrats assumed the majority in that body after the 2006 elections.
Yarmuth's 2006 upset win over then-U.S. Rep Anne Northup (R-Louisville) in Kentucky's 3rd Congressional District helped contribute to the Democrats attainment of that majority.
This year, Yarmuth faces a rematch against a well-financed Northup. Northup herself is getting fundraising help from national Republicans, including GOPAC chair and former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele (R-Maryland).
Updated - 5:04pm: A spokesperson from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee confirms that Pelosi will be doing a congressional event with Yarmuth in his district and a fundraiser.
