A Saturday visit to Louisville by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will include two stops and a media availability, all with U.S. Rep John Yarmuth (D-Louisville).
Pelosi and Yarmuth will visit the Louisville Ford Assembly Plant Saturday afternoon, where they will participate in a "roundtable discussion" with Ford management and labor union officials. That meeting will be closed to the public and the media.
Following that event, the Speaker and Yarmuth will have a brief media availability in the early evening prior to a fundraiser for Yarmuth at the 21 C Museum Hotel in downtown Louisville.
Pelosi's visit comes as the race for the 3rd Congressional District seat between Yarmuth and former U.S. Rep Anne Northup (R-Louisville) is heating up.
Yarmuth unseated Northup in 2006 and, in recent public polling, showed a seventeen point lead over the Republican.
An internal poll by Northup's campaign showed her down seven points to Yarmuth.
Yesterday, Northup told PolitickerKY.com she saw Pelosi's visit as an indicator Democratic leadership thought the race would end up a close one.
"It sends the message that obviously they think this is a tough race, that they think that John Yarmuth is in a tough election," said Northup.
